Why "Eat Less, Move More" Keeps Failing You

If weight were just math — calories in, calories out — the most disciplined people you know would all be lean, and we'd have solved this decades ago.

We haven't. Not because people got lazier or weaker, but because "eat less, move more" treats the body like a simple bank account when it behaves more like a thermostat — adjusting, compensating, pushing back against change.

For years the official response to the failure was basically try harder. If the advice didn't work, the problem was you. Your willpower. Your discipline. Never the advice itself.

I think that's backwards. When a recommendation fails for millions of people across decades, at some point we have to ask whether the recommendation — not the people — is the thing that's broken.

I won't hand you a miracle plan in a blog post; anyone who does is selling something. What the book does is walk through how this advice became gospel, who benefited from keeping it simple, and why the real picture is more hopeful than "just eat less."

If you've blamed yourself for following the rules and getting nowhere — let me offer a different suspect.
